Prepositional Phrase

Edat cümlecikleri, bir edat ve onu tamamlayıcı olarak takip eden kelimelerden oluşur. Bu tamamlayıcı kelimeler en yaygın olarak bir isim ifadesi veya zamirdir, ancak aynı zamanda bir zarf ifadesi (genellikle yer veya zaman belirten ifadelerden biri), -ing formundaki bir fiil veya daha az yaygın olarak bir edat ifadesi veya bir cümlecik olabilir:

 Preposition +  Noun, Pronoun, Gerund, or Clause

 Preposition  +  Modifier(s)  +  Noun, Pronoun, Gerund, or Clause

• It’s a machine for making ice-cream. (preposition + -ing clause)
• She was taken ill during the film. (preposition + noun phrase)

Prepositional Phrases as Adjectives

• All rooms below deck are for sleeping.
