Dare to / Daren't
".............. yapmaya cüret etmek/cesaret etmek" anlamına gelen bu modal ifade, "NEED" gibi hem "Modal Auxiliary" hem de "Ordinary Verb", yani sıradan bir fiil konumunda kullanılabilir. Eğer sıradan bir fiil gibi kullanılırsa kendisinden sonra "TO Va", yani "Infinitive" alır ve kullanıldığı zamana göre "DO/DOES/DID" ile soru ve olumsuz yapılır. "Modal Auxiliary" konumunda kullanıldığında ise kendisinden sonra "Bare Infinitive" yani "TO'"suz "Vj" alır.
- He didn’t dare to ask for a pay rise when he was refused for the second time.
- She dared to defend herself when she was attacked by a snatcher.
- If he dare come here again, I'll call the police. (Modal Auxiliary)
- Dare you do parachute jumping?
- They daren’t / (dare not) protest the new tax law.
I daresay = I suppose
- I daresay things in our company will improve very soon.
- I daresay your son is getting better, sir.
How dare(d) ................... ne cesaretle yaparsın / yaptın anlamına gelir.
- How dared you accuse me of betraying you?
- How can he dare to insult me in my own house.
