Comperatives

COMPERATIVE  FORM OF ADJECTIVES and ADVERBS
(Sıfatların ve Zarfların Karşılaştırılması)

Derecelendirilebilir sıfatlarla genel olarak ya iki şeyi, yada ikiden fazla şeyi karşılaştırabiliriz.
Note:

Bütün sıfatlar, derecelendirilebilir sınıfına girmez. örneğin, “complete”, “unique”, “whole”
karşılaştırılmaz (non-gradeable) olarak kabul edilir ve bu sıfatlarla “very, too, enough” vs gibi pekiştirici ifadeler kullanılamaz.
COMPERATIVE (iki şeyi karşılaştırma)

İki şeyi karşılaştırırken sıfatın tek heceli (one syllable) yada birden fazla heceli (more than one syllable) olmaları durumları göz önünde bulundurularak karşılaştırma özellikleri kullanılır.

ONE SYLLABLE (Tek heceli sıfatlar)

Tek heceli sıfatları sonuna genellikle “–er” getirilerek karşılaştırma yapılır.Karşılaştırma yapılırken karşılaştıran öğenin yanına “than” eklenilir.

  • tall                         taller than
  • clever                    cleverer than
  • old                         older than

Tek heceli sıfatların sonuna, eğer sıfat bir sessiz harf ile bitmiş ise, ve sessiz harften önce sesli bir harf gelmiş ise son sessiz harf ikinci kez yazılır ve sonuna “–er” eklenir.

  • big                          bigger than
  • fat                           fatter than
  • thin                        thinner than

Sonu –ly, -y, ile bitenlerin sonuna, eğer -ly, -y den önce sesli bir harf gelmiş ise –y düşer ve sonuna “—ier” getirilerek iki şeyi karşılaştırılır.
