A LOT OF / LOTS OF / A LOT

“Bir çok”, anlamına gelen bu sayı sıfatı, sayılabilen isimlerle çoğul, sayılamayan isimlerle tekil yapıda kullanılır ve hem soru, hem olumlu, hem de olumsuz cümlelerde yer alır. “A lot” ifadesinden sonra herhangi bir isim gelmemektedir. Zamir gibi kullanılabilir.

• I don’t like a lot of oil on my salad. It is both unhealthy and fattening.
• A lot of / lots of people were arrested after the illegal demonstration.
• A lot of / lots of information hasn’t been given to

Aşağıdaki cümlede "a lot" ifadesinin tek başına kullanılışına dikkat ediniz.

SOME

“Some”, Belli olmayan bir sayıda/miktarda/birkaç/biraz anlamlarına gelebilir. "Some" hem sayılabilen çoğul isimlerle, hem de sayılamayan isimlerle kullanılan bir başka miktar sıfatıdır. Genellikle olumlu cümlelerde kullanılan bu sıfat, ayrıca "evet" cevabının beklendiği soru yapılarında, tekliflerde, ricalarda veya emirlerde de kullanılabilir.

• They are treating some guests at the moment.

       (Şu anda bazı misafirlere ziyafet veriyorlar.)

• Have you got some more wine?

       (Biraz daha şarabınız var mı?)

• Bring me some salt and pepper for the soup.

      (Çorba için bana biraz tuz ve biber getir.)

PLENTY (OF)

“Fazlasıyla, çoğu, bir çok” anlamına gelir Hem Zamir olarak kullanılabilir, hem de “of” ile tamlaması yapılabilir.
